Volunteering at the lake
Volunteers are needed at Rudyard Lake. The lake and its surroundings and associated buildings need constant upkeep and regular maintenance. Whatever your abilities we need help with clearing litter, laying paths, replacing fence posts, painting and repairing boats, maintaining the Visitors Centre, scanning old photos for our archives etc.
The following is a testimonial from Jane, one of our volunteers!
I have been a volunteer at the lake now for nine years and I can’t imagine a more special place to spend my spare time. There is something quite magical about Rudyard Lake and it’s a pleasure to support the Ranger, Ray Perry, in his passion to preserve this wonderful place for future generations.
I have learnt so much during my time as a volunteer, from learning to drive our trip boat to feeding and taking care of our resident wildlife. Of course, it’s not all exciting times as there are also more mundane tasks to be completed, such as cleaning and tidying the Activity Centre rooms in preparation for customer use, and ensuring that the litter bins aren’t overflowing during the busy summer months.
As a volunteer, it’s all about pulling together and sharing all tasks! I never realised just how much work and energy goes on behind the scenes to make everything look so beautiful and tidy.
It’s so nice to feel part of something so unique; I honestly feel like the lake has become an extension of my back garden as I know it so well.

Ray is something quite special, tirelessly dedicated to ensuring that volunteers are provided with the opportunity to learn more about Rudyard Lake and encouraging them to participate in creating a legacy for future generations to enjoy. He always makes volunteers feel extremely welcome and provides an environment that is both supportive and inclusive to all.
If you have a spare hour or two to assist in keeping Rudyard Lake beautiful then please do consider becoming a volunteer. There are so many things to do at the lake that you are sure to find a task to suit you!
